I reported in this column several weeks ago that Five Star books is handing over the editorial duties for its original romances and women's fiction to book packager Techno Books. However, Five Star's romance reprint program is still being handled in-house. Five Star acquires hard cover rights to previously printed mass market paperback. Authors who have retained these rights, or had all rights to their work returned to them may contact Editor Hazel Rumney at Five Star.

Harlequin Books is in the early development stages for a limited line of trade paper erotica novels under the Spice imprint. They're looking for "good quality erotica." These books can push the envelope. They may be more literary with a lot of sex. They are not romances; that is, they are not strongly relationship driven with a happy ending. They're interested in 100,000 word manuscripts, contemporary timeframe only. At this time, they're accepting queries from agented authors only. Current Harlequin or Silhouette authors should query through their current editor.
