The Smart One was a great book, Ellen Meister weaved a great plot between the mystery and the relationships between the sisters including an awesome love story. Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
Then I moved back to Meg Cabot, Queen of Babble. I know the audience is for younger readers, but I like Meg Cabot's style. Then it was off again to read another Jane Porter. This time Easy on the Eyes. Her latest. A story of aging in the entertainment business. Now, I'm reading Jodi Picoult's book, My Sister's Keeper, again. I went and saw the movie, and I must say, I was sorely disappointed. The book was SSSOOOOOOO much better. I just had to read it again, to get the movie version out of my head. Cameron Diaz should not have played the mother. She's too young and doesn't not have the depth of character to tackle that kind of role. Joan Cusack did play the judge and she would have made a great Sara (mother) for Kate and Anna. She had the depth of character needed. And they sapped up the ending. They didn't follow the book at all. The ending in the book was tragic. All these women in the theater were bawling their eyes out and if they'd read the book like I did, there shouldn't have been any crying, only incredulous looks and questions. Where was the REAL ending? Where was the tragedy? Where was the reason to cry??? Off my soapbox now. |

I finished My Sister's Keeper.. a much more satisfying ending than the movie, in my opinion. Much more devastatingly tragic.
Then I started a new series by a new author: C.L. Wilson. Oh Boy, Hang on to your hats!! This is HOT. HOT. HOT. She's a new author, this is her first series and she's climbed the best sellers list with each book. The first in the series is Lord of the Fading Lands http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Lor...3959772/?itm=3 The second which I just finished is Lady of Light and Shadow http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Lad...3959789/?itm=2 The third which I'm going to start now is King of Sword and Sky http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Kin...3960594/?itm=1 The fourth and final book in the series doesn't come out until October, I believe but it's available for pre-order and it's titled Queen of Song and Souls http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Que...3960600/?itm=4 If you loved Lord of the Rings, Your're going to ADORE this series!!!! |

While I wait for the fourth book from CL Wilson to arrive (Not until October, sigh) I read "The Law of Similars" by Chris Bohjalian. Now, he's the author of "Midwives". Which I absolutely LOVED. But, this one, was very disappointing in the end. I was expecting so much more and was left with a "is that all there is?" and not in a good way. More like a "Gee, Chris, you could have put a little more effort into finding a better ending than that!"
Now, I'm reading Julie Leto's "Phantom Pleasures"... Very sensual and sexy. Like all of her books. Oh, and a PS to the CL Wilson series. Looks like there is a rumor that there is a FIFTH book coming!!! |

I started "Scarpetta" by Patrica Cornwell, until I realized I had literally skipped over "The Book of the Dead"... so I got that book, and will read it first, then go back to "Scarpetta".
Oct 27 is the release of "Queen of Song and Soul" CL Wilson's 4th book in the Tairen Series. I'm waiting so impatiently for it. But, I'm going to have to flip a coin with my husband to see who gets to read it first!! |

I solved the problem with who gets to read CL Wilson's book first. I bought two copies of "Queen of Song and Soul". One for my husband and one for me. I got really sick when the book was first released and couldn't read it, so had to wait. But, it was worth it. I"m sad because that leaves only the last book left in the series. "Tairen Soul." But, CL Wilson promises to write more books carrying on other characters' stories.
Now, I am reading "Xone of Contention" by Piers Anthony. It's part of the Xanth Series. I love that series. If you're not familiar with it, it's a fantasy world full of puns and fun making fun of the mundane world. |
